1894: Dec 5 A registered large envelope addressed to Captain McIntyre of Kilmichael, Milport, Scotland, and sent via Plymouth, England. The envelope was franked with five 1894 1c revalued stamps, with two stamps missing. These stamps were overprinted with "HABILITADO 1 CENTAVO" in black ink and affixed to a 2c rose-colored envelope. The stamps were cancelled with a postmark from Agencia Postal Nacional Panama. The envelope arrived at its destination in London, England, on December 28, 1894, as indicated by the arrival cancellation mark.
1894: Dec 5 Registered large envelope cover to Scotland, England franked on reverse by 20 1894 1c revalued, HABILITADO 1 CENTAVO in black on 2c rose tied by Agencia Postal Nacional Panama. Arrival cds on the front 28 DEC 1894 to London, England.
Surcharge stamps were introduced as a result of a shortage of 1, 5, and 10 cent stamps, and remained in use for approximately three months. The earliest recorded use of these stamps dates back to around November 3rd, 1894.
